A suspected car thief led sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit that began in Palmdale this morning and ended with the suspect spinning out and driving the wrong way into oncoming pursuers near Acton, injuring one deputy, a deputy with the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station said.

About 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, deputies were flagged down by a female driver who told them a motorist forced her off the road near the Highway 14 on-ramp at Palmdale Boulevard, said Deputy J. Ames.

Deputies spotted the motorist, determined the car he was driving was stolen and tried to stop him, but he “did not yield,” Ames said.

The suspect then got on the southbound lanes of Highway 14 at Palmdale Boulevard and was pursued to Soledad Canyon Road near Acton, where he spun out after hitting the center divider a couple of times.

“He then headed for the off-ramp in the wrong direction, causing a small collision with one of our deputies,” Ames said.

When asked if the deputy was injured, Ames said: “He had a complaint of pain.”

The suspect was apprehended near Soledad Canyon Road about 7:25 a.m., after his failed attempt to get back on the off-ramp.

Charges are pending.
