Barker - Newlen wedding announcement

Laura Elizabeth Barker, of Saugus, and Jeffrey Wayne Newlen II, of Saugus, were married in a double-ring ceremony Nov. 29 at the McDonald's residence in Valencia.

The bride is the daughter of Terry and Elaine Marker of Clay Cross, England and the granddaughter of Margaret Barker of Clay Cross, England and Derek and Christobel Chillery of Chesterfield, England.

The groom is the son of Jeffrey Newlen of Colombus, Ohio and Rose Newlen of Columbus, Ohio. He is the grandson of Pauline Newlen of Colombus, Ohio.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an elegant white strapless ballgown accented with a red sash at the waist with a diamond brooch. She carried a bouquet of monochromatic red roses with stephanotis accented with crystals. The ceremony was enhanced by white Casablanca lilies and cymbidium orchids from Acton Country Flowers.

Matron of Honor was Lacy Sincomb of Santa Clarita. Maid of Honor was Jennifer Pintar of Houston, Texas. Bridesmaids were Emma Barker of Santa Clarita and Bethany Barker of Santa Clarita.

Best Man was Joseph Newlen of Santa Clarita. Groomsmen were Charles Shepherd of Long Beach, Brian Mason of Oceanside and Travis Sincomb of Santa Clarita.

Flower girl was Ella Mee of Santa Clarita.

Guitarist was Jared Jens of Santa Clarita.

The wedding photographer was Lisa Anderson of Rosemarie Photography in Santa Clarita.

A reception and after wedding party was held at the McDonald's residence in Valencia where 30 guests celebrated at the reception and 90 guests at the after party.

A three-tier wedding cake designed by Jill's Cake Creations was served. Out-of-town guests attended from England and Ohio.

The bride is a 2001 Canyon High School graduate and a 2003 graduate of College of the Canyons. She holds a B.S. degree in interior design from California State University, Northridge. She is employed as a set decorator.

The groom is a 2001 graduate of Whitehall Yearling High School in Columbus, Ohio and a 2007 graduate of the Whittier Sheriff Academy in Los Angeles county.

He is also a 2008 graduate of the Marine Corps Sniper School. He is employed by the Pasadena Police Department and is serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a scout sniper.

The couple's honeymoon has been postponed until late 2009 when the groom returns from his second tour in Iraq.

They will make their home in Saugus.
