Hundreds of people from inside and outside the Santa Clarita Valley turned out Saturday afternoon to check out a collection of more than 100 import cars and raise money for the local YMCA.

The event, dubbed the “Hot Import Car Show,” drew more than 100 people who brought along their cars to vie for several trophies that were up for grabs, according to Gary Choppe’, the producer of the event.

The event drew participants from both in and outside the Santa Clarita Valley to compete at Saturday’s event, according to Choppe’.

“So we’re definitely putting Santa Clarita on the map today,” he said.

The event was free to attend but donations were suggested to benefit the Santa Clarita Valley chapter of the YMCA.

Choppe’ said the goal was to raise in the neighborhood of $1,000 to $2,000 to benefit the organization.

And given the turnout for the event, Choppe’ said he thought the event would raise a good amount to help the YMCA.

“We have hundreds of people here, I can’t even keep track of them all,” he said.

Choppe’ said the plan is to make the event an annual occurrence.

“This is a great community event because it gets both Santa Claritans and other people to come see what we have to offer,” he said.

Valencia Kia was the title sponsor for Saturday’s event.

Michael Crawford, the general manager of Valencia Kia, said in a news release that the goal of the event was to give back to the community as part of the auto dealer’s “grassroots commitment.”
