"Society has forgotten what it is to be a child. Children are left in front of the TV, or playing with an iPad, video games or phone; no interaction with other kids."

— Canyon Country resident Anne Marie Whalley in a Signal letter to the editor published July 30

Society has created this saddened situation with these children who cannot function without their iPads, iPods, iPhones, TVs or computers. The kids are tuning themselves off from the outside world.

Kids need more discipline at home and to show more respect to the teachers at school and realize that everything doesn’t revolve around them.

Parents send their kids to school undisciplined with no school ethics in mind, and consequently these kids show no respect to the teachers.

The parents expect the teachers to discipline their little darlings and teach them so they will be properly educated, but they don’t send them off to school with the right values to attend school.

Teachers are called on the carpet when cellphones are taken away in the classroom for texting or listening to music, which is disruptive, and the parents go ballistic with this discipline. The parents should get over it and be grateful to the teacher for this act of discipline.

Being disruptive in class is not acceptable, contrary to the parents’ grievance.

Teachers need a recess from their multple jobs. Teachers did not sign up to be a baby sitter or take over as a disciplinarian. Let’s split the recess up and give one recess to teachers so they can blow off steam and one recess to the kids so they can blow off steam also.
