Golf champs, local junior golfers team up at AT&T Champions Classic

WHO: Five AT&T Champions Classic Tour players to be named shortly will team up for an exhibition match with 15 junior golfers who represent the Los Angeles County Junior Golf Program.

Two of the outstanding junior golfers are from the Santa Clarita Valley.

* Steven Moentmann, 12, Stevenson Ranch, Junior World competitor
* Sahith Theegala, 11, Chino Hills, 3-time Callaway Junior World Champion
* Samuel Kim, 11, Irvine, National Drive, Chip And Putt Champion
* Jake Andl, 12, Westlake Village, 2008 LA County PLGA Junior Golf Champion, Boys 11 and Under
* Shane Wathanasaynee, 14, Cerritos, Junior World competitor
* Jason Semthiti, 16, Los Angeles, Qualified 1st Place 2008 Victoria G.C.
* Vincent Lam, 17, Temple City, SCPGA One-time Champion
* Andrea Lee, 10, Hermosa Beach, 2008/09 San Diego Junior Amateur Champion
* Patricia Wong, 12, Walnut, T-6th 2008 LA County PLGA Junior Golf Championship
* Raegan Bremer, 14, Anaheim Hills, T-6th 2008 LA County PLGA Junior Golf Championship

More than 1,153 junior golfers competed in five junior golf tournaments and 128 qualified to play in the final.

All 128 qualifiers were invited to play in the AT&T Champions Classic Pro-Junior. More than 60 responded and the first 14 were chosen to play.

WHAT: Players will compete in a five-hole (#10, #11, #16, #17, #18) exhibition golf match, Three juniors will team with one professional and record the one low-ball score.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

WHERE: Valencia Country Club, 27330 N. Tourney Road, Valencia, CA 91355

WHY: "AT&T is a long-time supporter of the Los Angeles County Junior Golf program and its foundation," said Brian Fitzgerald, executive director of the AT&T Champions Classic.

"Through our tournament, along with the Champions Tour professionals, we continue to spread the message of good sportsmanship, competition and fun through the game of golf," Fitzgerald said.

"This opportunity gives these junior players personal contact with legends of the game, but what we have found really interesting about this program is the professionals who participate have as much if not more fun than the juniors. We are proud to provide this opportunity to the Los Angeles County Junior Golf Program and welcome them to Valencia Country Club," he said.
