Mayo expansion as bad as Las Lomas

To The Editor:

What struck me while reading a recent article about Las Lomas was a quote from our own Lisa Hardy. Lisa is one of many who "rightfully" oppose this proposed development. Her quote in the article was, "It is so grossly incompatible with its surroundings, it violates every principle of urban planning."

She is absolutely correct. With the traffic and congestion currently so bad on Interstate 5 and Highway 14, our quality of life will only suffer with a development that large.

I feel the same about the proposed expansion on the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial campus. This "expansion" will be a G&L project that G&L will profit greatly from. Sure, specialists will come into our
valley to occupy these offices, but will they be able to work in the hospital?

The answer is no, because there will not be enough room in the hospital for them to practice. The current development agreement does not include any additional beds or hospital expansion. Plus, with only one main street in and out of the campus, congestion would be an understatement.

Lisa has enthusiastically talked about the G&L project at City Council meetings and how there will be a "healing garden" on the hospital's campus.

She should walk around the neighborhoods surrounding the hospital campus and then maybe realize that it is so grossly incompatible with its surroundings, it violates every principle of urban planning!
