Collision on I-5 injures teenage boy

A teenage boy was injured in a traffic collision and a woman was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury in a crash on Interstate 5, a California Highway Patrol sergeant said Monday.

Three vehicles southbound on Interstate-5 ran into each other just north of Calgrove Boulevard shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday, said CHP Sgt. John Lutz.

The vehicles were all traveling in the No. 2 lane when a BMW rear-ended the car in front of it, causing a chain reaction, Lutz explained.

“They were traveling between 55 to 65 miles per hour when the traffic slowed,” he said.

The collision pushed the car in front of the BMW, a Toyota Corolla, into the car in front of it, a Nissan Sentra, Lutz said.

The 17-year-old boy, a passenger in the Nissan, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Lutz said.

The driver of the BMW was arrested for driving under the influence, he said. She was identified as Heidi Ortiz of Canoga Park.
