The first national tour of the Tony Award nominated new Broadway production of "Grease" will feature Taylor Hicks in the role of "Teen Angel."

Hicks, season five winner of "American Idol," and the cast of "Grease" will begin a limited two-week engagement on March 10. The show will run through March 22.

Hicks made his debut on Broadway in the role of "Teen Angel" in "Grease" this past summer.

"I'm very honored to be able to play the role of Teen Angel," said Hicks. "It is a great introduction to musical theater and acting for me."

Hicks achieved widespread fame in 2006 as a contestant on the hugely successful FOX singing competition "American Idol." On May 24, 2006, Hicks was named the winner of the fifth season of "Idol" with more than 63.4 million votes. Winning the title over Katharine McPhee, the announcement was made during the live finale episode which aired to a worldwide audience of more than 200 million viewers.

This new production of "Grease" opened on Broadway on Aug. 19, 2007 and was born out of an NBC talent competition TV series, "Grease: You're The One That I Want." The weekly talent competition drew 90 million viewers, and America voted for its favorite contestants to play the lead roles of Sandy and Danny on Broadway.

The show features songs from the hit 1978 motion picture (which starred Olivia Newton John and John Travolta) for the first time ever in a Broadway production including "Sandy," the Academy Award nominated song "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "Grease" and "You're the One That I Want" - both of which were #1 hits on the Billboard Top 100 list.

These songs will be heard in addition to the Jacobs/Casey songs made famous by the original stage production including "Summer Nights," "Greased Lightnin'" and "We Go Together."

Hicks said he appreciates what an important show "Grease" is to musical theater. "It is such an American show and it is received wonderfully all over the country," he said.

For Hicks his favorite song of the show is the song "Greased Lightnin'".

"I think that song is iconic but there are some great songs in the show," he said. "That's what stands the test of time. When you have great songs it is easy to build a story around the song and that's what this show does."

Hicks new album "The Distance" will also be released on March 10 nationally. He will perform in a show at The Roxy Theatre, 9009 W. Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood on March 18. For info visit www.theroxyonsunset.com.
