OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — University of California President Mark Yudof has selected former Michigan State University Provost to serve as the chancellor for UC Riverside.

In a press release Thursday, Yudof says 59-year-old professor of communicative sciences and disorders would be the ninth chancellor of the Riverside campus.

Wilcox stepped down as Michigan's provost and executive vice president late last year, after serving in those positions since 2005.

Previously, he served as a University of Kansas dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and as president and CEO of the Kansas Board of Regents.

Wilcox replaces Timothy White, who left the position at the end of 2012 to become chancellor of the California State University system.

Details of the appointment, including compensation, will be finalized during an Aug. 8 UC regents meeting.
