Sisters Delaney and Lindsey Knudsen both finished near the top of their respective age groups in last weekend’s USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Championships.

Younger sister Lindsey, who will be a junior volleyball player at Valencia this fall, won the U17 championship with playing partner Abril Bustamante.

Meanwhile, older sister and recent Valencia graduate Delaney paired up with Skylar Caputo, of Costa Mesa High, to finish second place in the U19 bracket.

Both competitions took place from July 17-21 at Hermosa Beach.

Lindsey’s team finished 9-0 overall to end up atop a nationwide field of 43 teams. Knudsen and Bustamante, a Redondo Union High player, defeated Kaylie McHugh and Julia Lewkowicz in two sets, 21-11, 21-14 in the championship match.

Delaney and Caputo fell just short of winning the 45-team U19 bracket, falling to Sara Hughes and Kelly Claes in the final match 21-12, 21-5. It was the only loss of the tournament for Delaney and Caputo, who finished 8-1.

The same pairing is coming off a trip to Purtugal earlier in the month, where the two competed at the U19 World Beach Championships.

Both Knudsen sisters qualified for the High Performance Championships in the spring, when USA Volleyball held regional tryouts.
