After just one season, West Ranch lacrosse head coach Paul Gordon stepped down to pursue business ventures, the school’s athletic director Cassandra Perez confirmed Wednesday.

The school recently hired Michael Borso to take over the program, which will enter its second season after becoming the Santa Clarita Valley’s first CIF-sanctioned lacrosse program last spring.

“Paul was fantastic,” Perez said. “I’m really sad to lose him. I think he was a great coach, great mentor, great communicator for the kids, for the parents and for myself. He absolutely was an asset and I’m kind of devastated that he’s gone.”

Borso comes to West Ranch from Ohio, where he played lacrosse for the University of Toledo and coached at the high school level, according to Perez.

“He brings an enthusiasm and a wealth of knowledge,” Perez said. “It’s absolutely important. If you don’t have somebody that knows the game coaching, then you’re really at a disadvantage. We did so well last year, we want to continue that in the future.”
