Canyons Aquatics Swim Club, based in Valencia, will host an Open Water Junior Olympics event at Castaic Lake on Monday.

The event consists of kids from Southern California and as far away as Las Vegas and Boulder, Colo, Osowski said.

Athletes have already qualified for the Castaic event, which serves as a championship for the region.

“If it goes well it will be a staple for all future summer Junior Olympics to come,” Osowski said.

The event comes on the heels of the Summer Sectional meet held at the Aquatics Center from July 17-21.

That event was part of the Speedo Championships Series and drew swimmers from Southern and Central California and Nevada, according to Osowski.

“We have a really good momentum and we’re hoping to build on that momentum,” says Canyons Aquatics President Mark Osowski. “We’ve already been selected to host the winter Junior Olympics, which will be held at (Santa Clarita Aquatics Center) in January.”
