Hart baseball player Nick Valaika made the prestigious 2013 Milwaukee Brewers Area Code Games roster.

Hart junior shortstop Nick Valaika continues to make a name for himself, as the standout was the only local athlete named to the Milwaukee Brewers 2013 Area Code Games roster.

To make the team, Valaika needed to advance through three workouts as the pool of players was whittled down.

The team held workouts at Westmont College on July 8 and 9 and a final workout on July 16 at the University of Southern California.

Just being invited to the workouts is an honor, as the event is by invitation only based on the recommendations of Major League scouts from all 30 teams and the Major League Scouting Bureau.

The Area Code Games is an elite baseball showcase held in Long Beach from Aug. 5 to Aug. 10, with eight teams comprised of the best high school baseball players from eight regions of the country.

The Brewers represent Southern California.

This year’s teams are the Brewers, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics.

Valaika was one of three locals that tried out for the Brewers teams along with Chris McCready of Valencia and Jaiden France of Golden Valley.

This is the second straight year a Hart athlete has made the Brewers Area Code team, as former Indian Luke Persico made the prestigious roster last summer.
