Martin Rodriguez, board member of Single Mothers Outreach and Jennifer Kennedy, Single Mothers Outreach director of programs and services, discuss the new events for the annual Pool Party.

The third annual SCV Pool Party to benefit Single Mothers Outreach will be held 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.

"It’s a great place to beat the heat," said Martin Rodriquez, board member of Single Mothers Outreach.

Jennifer Kennedy, director of programs and services, said the fundraiser will include a number of fun and unique water-based activities.

The afternoon will feature a BBQ, music, raffles and games including the signature event rubber ducky race, dunk tank, water golf, treasure hunt and tug of war.

The LA Splash will perform a synchronized swim show.

New this year, will be paddle-board and kayaking lessons.

"This is the first year that we will be using the main competition pool," said Kennedy.

The pool will be the site of the kayaking and paddle-board lessons.

The rubber ducky race will include 350 ducks sold for $5 each.

The winner of the race will receive a $100 gas card and four tickets to Disneyland.

"This is the first year that we are offering such a large prize," said Kennedy. "You don’t have to be here to win."

Kennedy said residents who want to purchase a duck can contact Single Mothers Outreach.

She said the race is one of the highlights of the day for the children.

"The kids are waiting for all the ducks to come down the big yellow slide," said Kennedy. "They are clapping and cheering for the ducks. It is really fun."

Rodriguez and Kennedy said the city has been a "great partner" for the event.

"We’ve had such a great experience working with the city of Santa Clarita," said Kennedy. "We’re the only nonprofit that rents out this space to use for a fundraiser."

Rodriguez said city staff have worked with Single Mothers Outreach to put on a fun and safe event.

"This year we will have the entire facility," he said.

The dive pool is the site of water golf, said Kennedy.

Single Mothers Outreach serves single parents, both mothers and fathers in the Santa Clarita Valley, with a variety of programs and services.

The nonprofit serves 400-500 families in the SCV.

"Our goal is help families become self-sufficient," said Kennedy.

Sponsors are still being sought for the event.

"It’s a great way to get your company name out there in a family-friendly environment," said Rodriguez.

Rodriquez said his favorite part of the day is the tug-of-war.

"The kids really get into the parents-kids tug of war," he said. "This is a great way to spend time with the family before school starts."

Tickets to the event are $10 each and children under 5 are free. VIP cabanas are still available and offer a shady respite from the sun, said Rodriguez.
