Stevenson Ranch resident Gary E. Condie has resigned from the Hart district’s Facilities Foundation after 15 years of service, he said Tuesday.

Condie said his resignation, which takes effect Aug. 26, is necessary as he undergoes treatment for severe asthma.
“Over the next couple of months I will have a total of three, maybe four operations,” he said Tuesday. “I need to focus on my health.”

Condie is currently vice president of the Santa Clarita Valley Facilities Foundation, a William S. Hart Union High School District nonprofit that manages land purchases and development for the valley’s only public junior high and high school district.

Condie spoke fondly of his time with the Facilities Foundation and said some of the accomplishments he is most proud of include the construction of Golden Valley High School, bankrolling acoustic improvements in performing arts centers at Hart district schools and the foundation’s contributions to projects such as the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center on Centre Pointe Parkway.

“These are all things that, to be honest, I don’t know if any of them would have happened without the foundation,” he said.

Rick Patterson, the president of the Facilities Foundation, said the board will consider a new member in the next few weeks.

“We need to see if we can find someone who might be able to bring the same vigor and enthusiasm for supporting the school district as Gary Condie did,” Patterson said Tuesday.

The future of the Facilities Foundation remains in flux after members of the Hart district board voted in May to ask the foundation to transfer all of its assets to the district, a move that would likely lead to the dissolution of the foundation.

Though Condie said some assets could be transferred to the district, he thinks the foundation still has a role to serve.

“The district has its purpose,” he said. “But the foundation has its purpose as well.”
