JSB Development officials will present plans for a “town center-designed, transit-focused community” proposed for 185 acres of vacant property in Canyon Country at the Valley Industrial Association luncheon at 11:30 a.m. March 17 at the Valencia Country Club.

Estimations show more than 50 percent of the 40,000 employees working in the Valencia Industrial Park do not live in Santa Clarita. JSB Development’s Vista Canyon development project will strives to achieve a work-live balance and transform Vista Canyon into a transit-oriented, walkable community that will bring significant new amenities to the east side of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Primary design components include a Town Center with shops, restaurants, specialty grocer, and a hotel; a Metrolink station; and three parks and a multi-use trail system for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians.

The proposed community offers a variety of residential product types including single family homes, town homes, live-work homes, condominiums and high-end apartments.

VIA’s Workforce Housing Task Force meets monthly to discuss the issue, identify obstacles, and formulate next steps toward resolution. Public hearings for the project are expected to begin later in 2009.

The VIA business luncheon is open to the public. Cost is $40 for VIA members and $50 for non-members. To make a reservation for the March 17 luncheon, call VIA at (661) 294-8088 or visit www.via.org by Thursday.
