A man who was stabbed Friday following a confrontation with another man near the Jakes Way area of Canyon Country is recovering in the hospital and is expected to live, a spokesman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon, said Lt. John Rush.

“He’s expected to live,” he said shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday.

“Two guys exchanged words with each other on the street. One of them said, ‘Let’s fight.’

“They went around the corner and got into a fight and one guy stabbed the other,” Rush said.

Shortly after 2:15 p.m. Friday, sheriff’s deputies and officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a man stabbed on Manzanita Lane near Jakes Way, officials said.

Paramedics were dispatched to Manzanita Lane and were treating the stabbing victim by 2:35 p.m., said Fire Department Inspector Keith Mora.

Sheriff’s deputies were told to look for a stabbing suspect described as a Hispanic man with tattoos on his arms wearing a black T-shirt.

The suspect was last seen riding a bicycle northbound on Manzanita, according to deputies.
Detectives were following up on reports the victim flashed gang signs at his suspected attacker.
