A planned special election to fill two vacant seats on the Castaic Area Town Council has been called off after only one candidate emerged for each position, the council’s president said Friday.

“There’s no voting tomorrow at all,” said Town Council President Flo Lawrence, referencing Saturday’s scheduled election. “The two candidates are running unopposed.”

The two candidates, Marty Kreisler and Dawn Faulconer, will now join the council, which serves as an advisory body to county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, providing feedback on issues facing residents in the unincorporated areas of Castaic and Val Verde.

Town Council members represent certain portions of those areas. Kreisler will represent Region 1, encompassing Live Oak, North Bluffs, Hillcrest Park, Hasley Hills and the Valencia Commerce Center; and Faulconer will represent Region 5, which includes Double C Ranch, Hidden Lake, Stonegate, Northlake and regions east of Interstate 5 and north of Lake Hughes Road, according to Lawrence.

“We have two committed, willing and outstanding community members who stepped forward,” said Lawrence of the candidates. “And we’re thrilled.”
