Those who hear authors speak about their latest books can help a local high school student go to college.

The Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation hosts AfterWORD on Saturday, March 7 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salt Creek Grille in the Valencia Town Center.

Five authors will discuss, sell and sign their books. The ticketed event will raise money for scholarships to help graduating seniors of the William S. Hart Union High School District continue on to higher education.

The featured books include Mara Purl’s “Child Secrets,” Selden Edwards’ “The Little Book,” Cathy Silvers’ “Happy Days Healthy Living,” Josh Conviser’s “Emyre” and Harley Jane Kozak’s “Dead Ex.”

Prices are $40 for a ticket and $125 for a table for four. Appetizers, beverages and a no-host bar will be provided.

The Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization founded in 1951, has granted nearly $2 million in scholarships to about 2,100 local students since its incorporation in 1976, according to its Web site.
