Going round and round about the roundabout

What’s with all this attention and hullabaloo about a circle in the street? I’m referring, of course, to the Newhall roundabout.

I have been to many cities that have roundabouts, and they seem to work efficiently. Now you must remember that the drivers in these other cities don’t come from California, and they show a lot of courtesy one driver to another driver.

I will keep my fingers crossed in hopes that the drivers in Santa Clarita will show the same courtesy. If courtesy isn’t shown, the tow trucks will be out in full force, as well as the auto repair shops.

Be aware that the roundabout is a roundabout, and don’t try to outsmart the roundabout or try to show one-up-man-ship with the other drivers.

Roundabouts are not carousels.

You have no control on the carousel, but you do have control in the roundabout.

Be merry in the roundabout and pretend you are on a merry-go-round. Try to visualize that you are on a revolving amusement park ride, but you have control.

By the way, I composed this letter to the editor LTE one night and was hesitant to submit it to the Santa Clarita Valley Signal in anticipation that it would be ridiculed like some of my other letters to the editor concerning the traffic problems in the SCV.

I would like to extend my gratitude to The Signal for publishing Ms. Fogleman’s letter to the editor validating my concern about the hazardous traffic problems in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Buckle up, stay safe, and drive with caution.
