Preparation for construction of the Old Town Newhall Roundabout project will begin on Monday, July 22, 2013, and is anticipated to last six to eight months. As of Monday, July 29, the intersection of Main Street, Newhall Avenue, and 5th Street will be closed with traffic rerouted to Railroad Avenue and Lyons Avenue.

“The Old Town Newhall Roundabout project will benefit the community in more ways than one,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “The project will not only serve as a southern gateway into Old Town Newhall, but also reduce vehicle emissions and improve community mobility and aesthetics.”

During construction, signage will be posted to guide motorists and promote businesses that are open along Main Street. Both driveways at Hart Park will also remain open during the construction of the roundabout.

In anticipation of the new roundabout, the Santa Clarita City Council will host a groundbreaking event on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the southwest corner of Main Street and 5th Street. Event parking will be available at the southeast corner of Main Street and 5th Street in the City’s lot. Residents interested in going must RSVP by Friday, July 19, to Corrina Knudson at (661) 255-4939 or by email at cknudson@santa-clarita.com

For more information on the Old Town Newhall Roundabout project, contact City Associate Engineer Balvinder Sandhu at 661-255-4954 or visit Santa-Clarita.com.
