A successful team beats with one heart

Soroptimist International of Greater San Clarita Valley recently installed Vanessa Wilk as the new president for 2013-2014.

She is joined on the board of directors by Sue Reynolds, Immediate Past-President; Pam Ingram, Vice-President; Luana Minor, Treasurer; Teri Knafla, Treasurer-Elect; Kris Hough, Vice President of Membership; Jessica Miller, Recording Secretary; Valerie Chase, Corresponding Secretary; Laura Kirchhoff, Director; Christina Biscailuz, Director and Melanie Sedam, Parliamentarian.

Wilk and the board were installed by Soroptimist International Camino Real Region Governor-elect Dora Zavala at an evening dinner event held at a restaurant in Canyon Country.

Zavala was the founding president of the Soroptimist International of Greater SCV which was formed five years ago.

"It is a privilege and an honor to share this important evening with you," Zavala said.

Zavala ticked off a list of the club’s accomplishments for the year which included placing second for the "coveted Governor’s Award" and recruiting the most new members in the region.

After Zavala installed the new officers she presented them with a small heart-shaped gift to mark the occasion.

Wilk’s installation theme was "A Successful Team Beats With One Heart." The tables were decorated with heart-shaped sculptures and chocolate candy kisses.

"I believe we will be a successful team," said Wilk in her installation speech. "I am truly humbled and honored to be serving as your president this year."

Wilk also gave praise to the Soroptimist leaders that came before her.

Soroptomist International is Soroptimist is an international organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. More than 80,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories volunteer time and contribute financial support to community–based and international projects that benefit women and girls.

The name, Soroptimist, means "best for women."

Cheri Fleming, recently installed as President of Soroptimist International of the Americas, thanked the club for its efforts to support the programs of Soroptimist International.

"Our mission is to improve the lives of women and girls to enable them to live their dreams," Fleming said.

Sue Reynolds, the outgoing president of Soroptimist International of Greater SCV, was presented with numerous certificates of recognition from various city, county and state dignitaries.

Vocalist Lindsay Hough sang several songs during the program and Ed Masterson served as emcee for the event.
