A vote for Ender

To The Editor:

I am writing in support of Laurie Ender for City Council. The citizens of Santa Clarita will benefit greatly by electing Laurie Ender to the City Council on April 8.

Quite simply, Laurie has brought leadership and success since becoming a community advocate for our city. First, Laurie led two successful bond campaigns that raised millions of dollars for the construction and rehabilitation of our schools, including Golden Valley High School.

Later, she worked to build the Santa Clarita Valley PTA Council into an influential and award-winning 30,000-member-strong organization.

And currently she serves on the city's Parks and Recreation Commission that has brought, among many things, the Aquatics Center, the Veterans Memorial Plaza and the Todd Longshore Park to Santa Clarita.
Laurie believes in public safety, parks, roads and schools as the key to sustaining the quality of life we know and expect here in Santa Clarita. She has a front-row seat to many of these issues every day as she has three children, one each in elementary, junior high and high school.

They have played AYSO soccer, Hart baseball, Warrior Football and participated in the city's many great recreation programs available to our city's residents. She also has a husband who endures the commuting nightmare through the traffic-choked Newhall Pass every day.

Laurie wants to fight the Cemex mine all the way to Washington D.C. if necessary; she strongly supports the expansion of the hospital, recognizing the dangers that lie ahead if our greatly understaffed medical capabilities do not accommodate a growing Santa Clarita Valley.

In addition, two recent events distinguish Laurie as a candidate. First, more that 200 people, mostly families, turned out on a Saturday morning for her Family Day campaign rally. They fanned out across the city in support of Laurie delivering door hangers about her.

Second, local blogs have posted comments marveling that there are unknown people at her fundraising events. It's not the usual crowd. Why? Perhaps because this city with an historically low voter turnout finally sees there is a candidate that speaks for them and is in tune with the issues they experience every day. They recognize Laurie Ender should be their voice in city government.

Your voice has a vote. The vote for Santa Clarita's future and the vote to represent the quality of life issues for the city's future is Laurie Ender.
