Santa Clarita City Councilman Frank Ferry

Santa Clarita City Councilman Frank Ferry is on the mend after being injured during a visit to Washington, D.C., city officials said Wednesday.

While the exact nature of Ferry’s accident or the extent of his injuries was unclear, Mayor Bob Kellar said it appears the councilman “may have broken a bone or two.”

“We are very much looking forward to his recovery and hopefully he will be able to join us by the end of our hiatus,” Kellar said Wednesday.

City Council members are off for the summer but will resume meeting in August, Kellar said.

City spokeswoman Heather Sumagaysay also could not confirm the exact nature of Ferry’s injuries but said Wednesday he is still in Washington, D.C.

“Frank is in good spirits and he is on the mend,” Sumagaysay said.

Ferry was not on any official city business when he was injured, Sumagaysay said.

Calls to a cell phone belonging to Ferry were not answered Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ferry was first elected to the City Council in 1998 and has served ever since. He announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election to another term in 2014.
