I-5 closures in Elysian Park area of L.A. remain in effect

All northbound lanes of Interstate 5 at the state Route 2 underpass will remain closed all day Monday as workers repair damage caused by a fiery crash Saturday, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol said.

As of early afternoon Monday, all traffic northbound on the freeway was being diverted onto the northbound lanes of Route 2, said CHP Officer Monica Posada.

The southbound Nos. 1 and 2 lanes of the I-5 also remain closed to traffic as work crews make repairs.

A truck fire at the freeway interchange Saturday was so intense it rendered the structure’s concrete brittle, Patrick Chandler of the California Department of Transportation said Sunday.
