HONOLULU (AP) — A surfer who found an urn on a Hawaii beach is trying to find the family of the California woman it belongs to.

Heather Faustin found the wrapped plastic container along the shore of Diamond Head beach in January.

The urn looks like it's never been opened. A label on the box bears the name Betty Rhea Hilton Hauptman and includes the location, Marina del Rey, Calif.

She told KHON-TV that she's asking the public for help after unsuccessful attempts to find the woman's family.

Faustin says she wants to make sure the cremated remains receive a proper burial.

If she doesn't locate the family soon, she plans to scatter the ashes herself.
