Kooky assertions

I've read several kooky assertions in the Opinion section of The Signal lately. Here are three:

n "Tax cuts have been proven ineffective" - if you intend on bringing in more revenue for the government, then they are totally effective.

The Bush tax cuts took in more money for the government than ever before.

But if you intend on punishing people with taxes, then tax cuts are obviously ineffective.

Does anyone wonder why WalMart and McDonald's are profitable while offering lower prices?

n "We should stop the partisan politics" - can you imagine God sitting down with Satan in bipartisanship? What's wrong with them doing battle? Can you imagine one of them surrendering?

n "Selfish capitalism has to change" - housing is the main source of our current woes.

But the housing debacle was not the result of "selfish" free-market capitalism.

It was government corrupting the free market as depicted in The New York Times' Sept. 30, 1999, article "Fannie Mae Eases Credit to Aid Mortgage Lending."

Conclusion: The Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and Constitution are all about the limitless ‘"self," while at the same time placing limits on government. Should we then consider our founding documents selfish?

Didn't Jesus die on the cross so I that I can have a personal relationship with God?

Isn't that an endorsement of selfishness in having my own relationship with God? Individualism is the American way I know and love.

Just as it is for me, I know God has laid out a life for you - start walking this path. But remember, riding on the backs of other Americans doesn't make "your" footsteps. O bummer!

For those who believe Americans can't make their own footsteps, your condescension is duly noted, but I fail to see the moral superiority of your position in how lame it is to promote riding and not walking.
