INDUSTRY, Calif. (AP) — Three firefighters were injured while battling flames that consumed a block-long, abandoned Southern California warehouse in a three-hour firefight.

County fire inspector Anthony Akins says the fire erupted at around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday in a former fruit packing warehouse in the city of Industry, a largely commercial town east of Los Angeles.

Flames engulfed the building and the roof collapsed. More than 100 firefighters attacked the dangerous blaze, but were forced to retreat from the building and fight it from a distance.

Akins says the firefighters' injuries were minor, and two were heat-related.

TV helicopter news reports showed firefighters spraying streams of water on the flames from high fire truck ladders.

Akins said the fire is believed to have started in the basement, where there was ample fuel.
