A team of three women stole close to $3,000 worth of sunglasses from the Sunglass Hut inside the Valencia Westfield Town Center Mall around 1:45 p.m. last Tuesday, deputies reported in their log. Responding to a “grand theft” sunglasses call, deputies were told by a store employee that one woman distracted him while two others stole 11 sunglasses valued at $2,970. Deputies said they expected to review store surveillance footage of the crime.

Burglary (Commercial)
Newhall Ranch Road, Valencia
When deputies responded to a burglary call from the loss prevention officer at Home Depot shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Home Depot staff said the woman was seen entering the store concealing high-priced items and then taking them to the exchange counter for credit. The woman told deputies she had stolen $255.93 from Home Depot before Christmas by walking out of the store with merchandise and then cashing it in. This time the items she allegedly took totaled $237. When asked why she did it, deputies said she told them she wanted to “make a little money to get by.” She said she traded store credit for cash or drugs.

Grand Theft (Bicycle)
Town Center Drive,
Valencia
Thieves used an unknown cutting device to clip the lock on a bicycle parked in the bicycle rack at Golds Gym at the Valencia Westfield Town Center Mall, deputies wrote. About noon Wednesday, a 57-year-old man locked his $1,100 yellow-and-black Rainer bicycle outside the gym. Deputies reported: “The lock securing the bicycle to the rack was cut with an unknown item.”

Battery, Drunk in Public

Deputies responded to a disturbance call at 5:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July after a couple walking their dogs reported being confronted by a man yelling obscenities, The assailant kept pushing and challenging the man to a fight, deputies wrote. The man told the assailant to leave the couple alone and warned that he would hit him. The assailant persisted and the man punched him, knocking him to the ground. Deputies arriving at the scene reported the man who confronted the couple “having trouble standing on one spot and swaying from side to side.” When deputes asked the assailant how he got a bump on his head, the assailant replied: “I have no idea what you are talking about. I have a bump there?”

Vandalism
Everett Street, Newhall
A Newhall man was awakened shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday by the sound of something breaking outside his window, according to a sheriff’s deputy report. The man saw someone standing by his work truck and yelled, “Hey, what are you doing?” The suspect yelled an obscenity at the man. The resident found the passenger mirror on his truck broken at a cost of $200.
