California Highway Patrol officers temporarily shut down Interstate 5 in both directions near Parker Road in Castaic just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday due to a man who was threatening to jump from the freeway overpass.

CHP officers quickly halted traffic after the man was seen walking on the ledge of the overpass, CHP Officer Jennifer Cassidy said.

Parker Road was also closed in both directions and The Old Road was shut down in response to the jumping threat, and traffic was diverted away from the area, CHP officers said.

Around 5:48 p.m., CHP officers said the man had been safely taken down from the ledge of the overpass.

Officers began reopening lanes just before 6 p.m. Cassidy said.

The man was transported from the scene in an ambulance, according to a witness at the scene.
