NORTHRIDGE — Looking for a statement win in the championship game of the Warriors Invitational at Heritage Christian School in Northridge, Hart gave the host team a scare behind the big play of Renz Brual.

The senior was locked in a back-and-forth battle with Cal Berkeley-bound Juhwan Harris-Dyson for the entirety of the contest, before Brual fouled out.

With Hart’s hottest player unavailable, Heritage took the title with a 64-58 victory over the Indians, using a late 8-3 run to set the final score.

“We got a couple of good looks that didn’t go down,” said Hart coach Tom Kelly. “I’m so proud of our guys, we battled.”

Brual, who finished the night with 22 points, hit two free-throws late in the fourth quarter, giving the Indians their first lead of the night, a 55-54 advantage.

Harris-Dyson tied the game 55-55, splitting the two foul shots that ensued from Bruals’ final foul. The tournament’s MVP finished the night with 26 points, including an emphatic slam dunk to start the game.

After a tightly contested first half that saw the Indians trail Heritage 35-31 at the end of the second quarter, Hart tied the score 39-39 on a Carson Weiss bucket late in the third quarter.

Keithan Jureidiini hit a three-point shot, which Harris-Dyson followed with layup to start a 10-4 run for Heritage that gave them a 49-43 lead going into the final quarter.

Hart will play host to the Poly High School Parrots next Thursday.
