When driving around our beautiful city, you may notice during certain times of the year that American flags line our streets. More recently, you may have seen the city’s Hometown Heroes Military banners accompanying the flags. These banners, honoring Santa Clarita’s heroes, are installed around Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day. I have a deep appreciation and respect for those who protect and serve our country and I could not be more proud of this wonderful program.

The Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program offers local friends and families of actively-serving military an opportunity to have a streetlight pole banner hung along a major thoroughfare in one of Santa Clarita’s communities including: Canyon Country, Valencia, Saugus and Newhall. Each banner features the military member’s photograph, name, rank and branch of the military they serve on a red, white and blue, star-spangled motif design.

To qualify, banner honorees must be active duty military personnel in the United States Armed Forces; they must be a current Santa Clarita resident, or an immediate family member of a current Santa Clarita resident and must have lived in the Santa Clarita Valley at some point.

I really love this program and that our community has come together to support it. Businesses and community members have provided donations in order to help underwrite the cost of the banners for those in need. Because of these generous donations, the price per banner has been reduced to $325.15.

For this program, we are working with our banner vendor, AAA Flag and Banner, who is responsible for taking banner orders, printing the banners, installing them and removing them. Upon the conclusion of the contract agreement, and/or when the military member is no longer active, the banner will be given to the family or sponsor to keep.

Families needing additional financial assistance can contact me directly for assistance at: [email protected]. Our community has made it possible for anyone who wants a banner and cannot afford one, to obtain one for their military hero.

The Hometown Heroes Military Banner orders are accepted at any time and can be purchased by individuals, family members or organizations.

To order a Hometown Heroes Military Banner to honor your hero, an order form can be found online at santa-clarita.com/Heroes.

Each and every time these beautiful and patriotic displays of appreciation are hung, I am so thrilled to be part of this community and so thankful for ALL of the veterans and actively-serving men and women who protect and fight for our country.
