Patrick Mullen has taken over the helm as Business Editor for The Signal newspaper and Santa Clarita Valley Business Journal.

His appointment is effective immediately.

“I was attracted to this job by the opportunity to fully engage in the life of the Santa Clarita Valley; by telling the stories of the businesses that are the lifeblood of the valley,” he said.

Mullen has extensive experience working in both editorial and nonprofit positions.

A recent transplant from Cleveland Heights, Ohio – a suburb of Cleveland much as Santa Clarita is to Los Angeles – Mullen has family connections in Santa Clarita in the business community.

Having spent 12 years with a managed health care magazine, he served as Senior Contributing Editor, and then as Editor, of the publication.

Most recently, he served as Executive Director of an organization which raised money for public school programs.

In the latter capacity, Mullen interacted with all levels of the business and civic communities – as well as worked with school personnel and the public.

As for his work with the business journal, his vision is to continue to build on the track record of the publication in covering the business community in the region, he said.

“I want the Santa Clarita Valley Business Journal to continue to accurately reflect our vibrant and growing community in a way that’s engaging and is a must-read for anyone doing business here,” Mullen said.

Mullen replaces Paul Parcellin who had filled the role for the past two  months. Parcellin stepped down, preferring to continue in his prior role as writer.
