American Medical Response hosts third annual Hits for Heroes softball tournament

To support veterans, active duty service members and fallen community members, American Medical Response (AMR) will host its third annual charity softball tournament Hits for Heroes.

Hits for Heroes is intended to help service members and show gratitude for their sacrifice and service.

This year’s event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Big 8 Softball Complex in Lancaster.

Attendees will have the opportunity to watch local heroes play completive softball, donate items to fill care packages to send to troops overseas, participate in a Home Run Derby and grab drinks at the event’s beer garden.

A total of 20 teams consisting of mainly public agencies, each donating of $300 to enter the tournament, will compete from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For $10, members of the public can join the event’s first Home Run Derby at 10 a.m.

The beer garden, added this year, will open at noon and will feature 16-ounce beers for and 6-ounce glasses of wine for $7 each from local breweries and wineries.

All proceeds from the event will be used to support the Lancaster Veterans Home, Edwards Air Force Base (ASB) Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA), Lancaster Veterans Home and families of Santa Clarita AMR EMT Christopher Parry and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Steve Owen.
