Emergency response crews responded to reports Thursday morning of a small plane seen crashing in the Sand Canyon area, north of Highway 14.

The unconfirmed report first reached the attention of Los Angeles County Fire Department officials and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday when a person called to report seeing a plane crash and a parachute in the area of Highway 14 and Sand Canyon Road.

A second call received by fire officials came in at 11:40 a.m. reporting black smoke north of Highway 14, at Sand Canyon.

“We’re going up there now to check it,” Lt. Bryan Aguilera said. “We have no further information at this time.”

A spokeswoman for the Fire Department said that although they received the call of a plane going down, firefighters found no evidence of such.
